2022 Kia Seltos | Daytona Beach, FL

The Kia Seltos is a subcompact SUV with fun-to-drive characteristics, a surprisingly roomy interior, and loads of competitive features even at the lowest trim level. Part of a growing lineup of SUVs for the brand, the Seltos is a compelling choice for small families or commuters who desire more space than a hatchback could provide.

Engines and Performance

Under the hood of the 2022 Kia Seltos, you’ll find one of two available engines: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder or a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder. The 2.0-liter uses a continuously variable automatic transmission and is rated at 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.
The 1.6-liter makes 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. DCTs deliver faster and smoother shifts than traditional automatic transmissions, and are unusual in this price segment, making the Seltos stand out among other affordable SUVs.

Besides the Seltos S, which has standard front-wheel drive, all Seltos models are equipped with a Dynamax™ all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring technology, a nice plus in areas that frequently get inclement weather including rain showers. Overall, the 2022 Seltos has a smooth ride and fun-to-drive handling that, if you’ve driven many other SUVs in the past, you may find uncharacteristic — in a good way.

Fuel Economy

The 2022 Kia Seltos has strong EPA-estimated fuel economy figures, helping you save money whether you’re just heading to the market or going on a long family road trip. The base FWD model with the 2.0-liter engine gets 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, while AWD models get 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.[1] The 1.6-liter engine, which is offered with AWD only, gets 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.[1]

Passenger and Cargo Space

Though technically classified as a subcompact SUV, the Kia Seltos is around 2 to 8 inches longer than most other subcompact SUVs, directly leading to more interior space. Smaller than the Kia Sportage but larger than the Kia Soul, the Seltos has plenty of room for passengers and cargo despite its extremely manageable exterior footprint. That’s in part thanks to its boxy profile, which translates to more head space. Unlike most other crossovers in its class, the Seltos doesn’t feel claustrophobic, even for rear passengers.

Cargo space is also excellent. You get 26.6 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats, enough to secure eight carry-on suitcases. Cargo capacity increases to an impressive 62.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat, enough for camping gear, enough groceries to survive the zombie apocalypse, or 20 carry-ons.

Interior Refinement

Kia has gotten all of the basics right when it comes to interior design. Flexible seating configurations, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and above-average leg room make it easy to get comfortable, particularly for the driver. The Seltos uses nice materials, especially at the upper trims, and its interior design would look at home on some of Kia’s more premium models, like the Telluride. It’s also available with heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, faux leather upholstery, and a power sunroof. It may have a budget-friendly price, but the Seltos’s upscale feel is undoubtedly one of its strengths.

Infotainment Features

All 2022 Kia Seltos models are equipped with a touch-screen UVO infotainment system with built-in Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration. The base Seltos LX gets an 8-inch display, but all other trims feature the same 10.25-inch touch screen that you can find in the Telluride, which is laid out horizontally for extra functionality.

The Seltos has a cool two-tiered storage solution with a small upper tray designed to grip smartphones, which doubles as a wireless charger on some trims. The lower area has two USB ports and can hold an additional phone or other small items.

Built-in navigation is optional, and when equipped can be split on the main infotainment screen to show radio information, allowing you to see both sets of information at once without having to page through different displays. Overall, the UVO infotainment system is easy to use and you’ll need no time at all to learn its many convenient features.

Some of the SUV’s most notable technology options include a head-up display and an 8-speaker Bose® premium audio system synchronized to front door speaker lights, which can pulse to the beat and even change color.

Advanced Driver Assistance

The 2022 Kia Seltos makes no compromises when it comes to safety. Every model is equipped with Kia Drive Wise, a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane following assistance, and a forward collision-avoidance system capable of automatically applying the brakes to avoid an accident.

The Kia Drive Wise package doesn’t encompass all of the Seltos’s smart safety features, though. The SX trim also gets adaptive cruise control and an automatic emergency braking system that detects cyclists.

The Kia Seltos has earned the highest possible score in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s front crash prevention evaluations, helping it win the coveted Top Safety Pick award. It also received a four-star overall rating for safety in government crash testing.

If you’re looking for a ride with generous interior space for passengers and cargo that doesn’t drain your wallet at the gas station or make it impossible to park in narrow spaces or navigate congested city streets, the 2022 Kia Seltos is a compelling choice. Test-drive it today at Daytona Kia in Daytona Beach, Florida!
