The Kia Soul is one of the most unique vehicles available today. With its iconic boxy shape and modern interior, the KiaSoul arrives with more standard features and advanced technology across all of its trims.
With its compact size, the 2022 Soul is always fun to drive. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission that does the work for you. You can expect to get 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque with this powertrain. But moving up to the Soul Turbo puts a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood. This engine is mated to a smooth-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and generates an exhilarating 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. With the standard engine, max fuel economy comes in at 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Even with the Soul Turbo, you can make fewer stops at the gas station with 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
EPA fuel economy estimates. Actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits, and your vehicle’s condition.
The Soul is known for looking different from most other vehicles. Its square-like shape can be painted in a variety of exciting colors — like Inferno Red, Neptune Blue, and Undercover Green — as well as a couple of two-tone options on the Soul X-Line. The front features the new Kia logo, a black radiator grille, and multi-focus reflector headlights, while the back is adorned with a rear windshield wiper. When you choose the Soul X-Line, exterior features like 18-inch alloy wheels, fender cladding, and roof rails make the SUV more adventurous. You can also go the performance-inspired route with the Soul GT-Line and Soul Turbo, which come with a silver rear skid plate, a hot-stamped grille, side sills with red accents, and sporty front and rear bumper fascia.
Inside, the 2022 Soul offers many amenities to make your drives more comfortable and convenient. The base LX trim comes with an overhead sunglasses holder, woven cloth seat trim, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, and a soft-touch dash. But when you choose other trims in the Soul lineup, you could add more convenient amenities like a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote start. The dual level cargo board on the GT-Line, EX, and Turbo models transforms the flat cargo area to allow for even more storage space. In total, the Soul offers 62.1 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down. With the rear seats up, you’ll still have 24.2 cubic feet to stow gear, groceries, and anything else you need.
The 2022 Soul received quite a few updates when it comes to tech, including a larger 8-inch touch-screen display on the base LX trim. The S, X-Line, and GT-Line trims also got screen upgrades to a standard 10.25-inch touch-screen display with navigation, a wireless smartphone charger, and dual USB chargers. Music lovers will appreciate the crystal-clear sound that comes from the Harman Kardon® audio system with center speaker, subwoofer, and external amplifier. On top of that, the Soul Turbo comes with speaker lights that pulse to the sound of your music and offer multiple ambience themes. Other infotainment features available on the 2022 Soul include Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Bluetooth®, and a Head-Up Display.
Along with advanced infotainment technology, the safety systems on the new Soul are also cutting edge. A long list of systems from the Kia Drive Wise suite of driver-assist technologies are available to add to this compact SUV. This includes innovative things like Driver Attention Warning, which lets you know when you’re attention level is reduced, and Smart Cruise Control, which automatically adjusts your speed based on the vehicle ahead of you. Other available safety systems include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Lane Change Assist.
